Jake Knowles Storms Through Durrence Layne ‘Dega Weekend

By Ben Shelton (Rome, GA) -- Jake Knowles made a clean sweep of the weekend’s Durrence Layne Dirt Late Model Series action during Talladega Short Track’s NASCAR weekend. Pushing his 2019-win tally to eight, Jake won on both Friday and Saturday night in his Knowles Race Parts & Bodies No. 66 Phillips Properties/ Josh Roberts Trucking/ Coosa Heating & Cooling/ Longhorn Chassis Late Model.

“Wow, what can I say about this team right now other than they are giving me an awesome racecar every time that we unload,” Knowles said. “I’ve been staying busy keeping our customer’s cars ready to race, but my crew has been doing a phenomenal job preparing my stuff each week. We had a flawless weekend at Talladega, and I couldn’t be more proud of where we are at with this program right now.”

Jake Knowles continued his pursuit of the 2019 Durrence Layne Dirt Late Model Series championship with a trip to Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Alabama) over the weekend. On Friday night the NASCAR weekend doubleheader came to life at the track known as “The Hornet’s Nest.”

In a field of 36 cars, Jake laid down the fastest lap in time trials, which positioned him on the pole for the main event. Fending off a hard-charging Sam Seawright late in the 40-lapper, Knowles led wire-to-wire to capture his seventh win of the season and a $2,000 payday. Seawright, Brandon Williams, Cruz Skinner, and T.J. Brittain completed the Top-5 finishers.

Returning on Saturday evening, Knowles locked his spot into the finale with the second-fastest time in his qualifying group behind Brandon Williams. Rolling off fourth for the finale, Jake tracked down and passed polesitter Jadon Frame on lap 43. The Georgia racer went on to record his eighth win of the season, which came over Frame, Oakley Johns, Tyler Wood, and T.J. Brittain. Taking the checkers 3.354 second ahead of Frame, Jake Knowles pocketed $2,500 for his winning performance.

With the weekend sweep, Jake extended his lead over Cruz Skinner in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings. For full results from the events as well as the latest standings, please visit http://www.DurrenceLayneRacing.com .

The Durrence Layne Dirt Late Model Series event posts a $3,000 top prize on Friday night and a $7,000 winner’s check on Saturday night.
