Jake Knowles scores emotional Rome Speedway victory

After a slow start to the weekend in All-Tech Speedway’s Harvey Jones Memorial Jake Knowles ended the weekend with a high note on Sunday evening at Georgia’s Rome Speedway.

Knowles not only took his Welshan’s Competition Racing Equipment No. 66 Josh Roberts Trucking/ Robert Skinner Racing/ Savage Chassis Late Model to the Winner’s Circle, but more importantly he was joined there by his mom, who has been recovering from a recent surgery.

“We lacked speed on Thursday and Friday at All-Tech Raceway, which was probably mostly on me as a driver at that place. Then on Saturday, we were caught up in a wreck on a lap 10 restart, and it knocked us out of the event,” Knowles shared. “My team thrashed to get the car back together for Sunday night at Rome. Everything came together there nicely, and I got my first win in a long time at that place. By far the best part of the night was having my mom there with me. It’s been a few races since she felt up to going to the track, and to have her there in Victory Lane meant the world to me.”

Jake Knowles kicked off the Memorial Day racing weekend on Friday night with preliminary action for the annual Harvey Jones Memorial at All-Tech Raceway (Lake City, Fla.). Thirty-six entries were hand for the Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model event. After falling short of qualifying for the feature event via Friday’s preliminary action, Knowles earned the 20th-starting spot in the $10,000-to-win finale via a B-Main.

Jake saw his outing in the 60-lap feature come to an early end after being collected in a multi-car melee following a lap 10 restart. He was credited with a 24th-place finish.

The team thrashed to repair the car on Sunday, and Jake returned to competition later that evening at Georgia’s Rome Speedway. Starting fourth on the grid for the feature, Knowles stormed to the lead on lap 7 and never looked back on his way to the victory, which marked his third of the 2021 campaign.
